Helping people learn about color is one thing I love to do. It is a complex subject and being able to break it down into simple terms and bite-size bits is always a challenge for me. When I first realized I needed to study color and color schemes, there was very little information available in the decorative painting field. That’s one of the reasons I wrote the book, "The Color Book", and then several years later, "The ABC’s of Color - Keeping It Simple".

The ABC’s of Color book and video are designed to help you learn about color. I start with the basics, explain them thoroughly, and then give you some simple learning exercises to do. This reference book covers a great deal of information in a down-to-earth, easy to read and understand way. Topics include:

The ABC’s of Color Video is 60 minutes of visual examples showing you the ways to control intensity and value; showing you color schemes, etc. The book and video are companion pieces - each enhances the other.

The Color Star - If most color wheels don’t make sense to you, then this is the one you will really enjoy. It comes with cutout templates of the most common color schemes. What makes it a great? When you place a template over the color star, it shows you only the colors in your chosen color scheme. You can look at that color scheme using either the dark side of the template or the light side. This helps you visualize your color scheme against either a dark or light background. To me, helping you visualize a color scheme is a color wheels main job. This one does it superbly!

Picture Perfect - Being able to determine if you have adequate value changes in a painting is something most of us need help with. Picture Perfect is a tool which has two very good value scales included. It also has three pieces of framed red acetate (look through the acetate to block out color and check for value changes). Also included are three pieces of clear acetate with lines dividing the area vertically and horizontally into thirds. This can help you with composing designs and setting up a center of interest.

All of the above items I highly recommend to you as you study color. You can order them in the shopping area of my site.
